Emailing Your New Blog Posts Automatically
Connect your blog once and your newsletter emails your new posts to your list on the schedule you choose.
If you write a blog, your newsletter can send your new posts to your subscribers for you. You connect your blog once, choose a look and a schedule, and turn it on. After that you just publish on your website as usual. If you have not published anything new, no email goes out.
Your older posts are never sent. Anything already on your blog when you connect it is skipped, so your list only hears about what you publish from then on.
Set it up
Go to Newsletter → Campaigns and click Email my new posts (you will also find it as Automatic blog emails on the Newsletter overview). The setup has four short steps.
1. Website
- Under Website, choose one of your sites. If your blog lives somewhere else, choose Use another blog address and type it into Blog address (for example yourwebsite.com/blog).
- If you have more than one subscriber list, pick one under Send to.
- Click Find my posts.
We look for your posts and show you the latest ones. If we cannot find any, check the address is the page your posts are on. Nothing is sent at this stage.
2. Design
Pick a style (Simple letter, Editorial or Bold announcement) and watch the preview on the right change. The preview uses your recent posts as a sample.
If you want to change the wording, colors or layout in more detail, click Customize this design. Keep the New posts piece in the email, because that is where your posts go.
Click Choose when to send when you are happy.
3. Schedule
Under Send frequency, choose:
- Whenever I publish: a new email shortly after each new post. We wait a little while after you publish in case you spot a typo, and posts that go up late at night wait until the morning.
- Weekly roundup: pick a Day of the week and a Time.
- Monthly roundup: pick a Day of the month and a Time. Shorter months use their last day.
Under More options you can set the Maximum posts per email. Extra posts wait for the next email.
Times are in your list's time zone, which you can change under Newsletter → Settings, on the General tab. Click Review my blog emails.
4. Review and turn it on
- Check who it is from, which list it goes to, and the schedule.
- Under Send a test to, enter your own address and click Send test email. It is worth seeing one in your inbox.
- Click Turn on blog emails.
If something needs finishing first, such as a postal address or a sending address, it is listed under A few things to finish first with a link to fix it. Writing and Sending a Campaign explains each message, under "If it will not let you send".
Your next email
Once it is on, click Your next email to see what is coming up. From there you can:
- Untick a post to hold it back for a later email. It stays under Available for later.
- Move posts up or down to change the order.
- Write A note from you, which appears above the posts in that email only.
- Click Refresh posts to check your website for anything new.
- Click Save edition to keep your changes for the next email.
- Click Skip this edition to leave the selected posts unsent for good and move on to the next scheduled email. Your blog emails stay on.
Approve each email first (optional)
If you would rather look at every email before it goes out, tick Let me approve each email before it sends on the Your next email page. From then on, nothing sends until you click Save & approve. The page and your Newsletter overview show Waiting for approval or Approved so you always know where things stand. If you change an approved email, you will need to approve it again.
Turning it off
On the Email my new posts page, click Pause and edit. That stops any further emails and lets you change the setup. An email that was already on its way when you paused may still arrive. When you are ready, go through the review step and turn it on again.
You can also turn it on and off from inside the email editor, under Blog automation, with Turn it on and Turn it off.
If it stops
If we cannot read your blog after several tries, the page shows Your blog emails have stopped and your Newsletter overview lists it under Needs attention. Check your website is up and the blog address has not changed, then click Review setup and turn it on again. If you are not sure what changed, open a ticket and a real person will look at it with you.
Seeing how they did
Click View reports to see every blog email that has gone out, how many arrived and how many people clicked. See Reading Your Newsletter Reports.
