Receiving and Replying to Email
Set up receiving addresses, read incoming mail and attachments, and reply from your dashboard.
The Inbox holds mail sent to the receiving addresses you set up. Receiving is configured separately from your sending domain.
Add a receiving domain
- Open Incoming email from the Transactional email workspace, then click Receiving addresses.
- Under Add a domain to receive on, enter a domain such as
mail.example.comand click Add domain. - Add the displayed TXT record and MX record at your DNS provider. Copy the exact names, values and MX priority shown.
- Click Check now and wait for Receiving.
A subdomain lets you receive here while keeping the mailboxes on your main domain where they are. If the name already has an MX record for a mailbox you use, do not replace it. Choose a subdomain or ask us for help.
Waiting on your records means ownership has not yet been verified. Waiting on the MX record means ownership is verified but mail is not yet pointed here.
Choose the addresses
Under your receiving domain, enter the part before the @ in New address—for example, orders—then click Add address. Leave it blank to create a catch-all that receives everything sent to that domain.
The page shows how many domains and addresses your plan allows. Use Turn off to stop receiving on an address, or Turn on to enable it again.
Read and reply
Open Inbox, search by sender or subject, and open a message. Download available files under Attachments. If an attachment is withheld, the reason appears beside it.
When Reply is available, write your response and click Send reply. You can also use Mark unread to return to a message later. If replying is unavailable, ask a company member with email access to check your setup.
Use the folder selector to check Suspected junk if a message seems missing. A warning that the sender could not be confirmed means you should verify the request before acting on it.
Removing a receiving domain
Remove on a receiving domain stops receiving there and deletes the mail it holds. The confirmation explains that this cannot be undone. Save any records you need before removing it.
Send replies to an existing mailbox instead
You do not have to use the dashboard inbox for replies to outgoing email. Your developer can set a reply address in the sending application. Verifying a sending domain alone does not create a receiving mailbox.
