Connecting a Website or App over SMTP
Copy your outgoing mail settings into a website plugin, shop or booking system and check a test message.
SMTP is the usual option when a website plugin, shop or booking system asks for a mail server, username and password.
- On Sending domains, find your verified domain and click Connect an app.
- Copy Server or host, Port, Security or encryption and Username into your software's outgoing email settings.
- Click Show beside Password and enter that password in your software.
- Set the software's From address to an address on that verified domain.
- Save the settings and use the software's test-email feature, if it has one, to send a message to an inbox you control.
Use the SMTP password shown on that page. It is separate from an API key. Give it only to the app and the person maintaining it. If it is exposed, contact support to replace it.
For a WordPress site we manage, ask us to check the existing mail connection before changing plugins or settings.
Check the connection
After the test, open Sent email and search for the recipient or subject. Open the message for its delivery status, then check the receiving inbox.
If the app reports a connection error, check that its server, port, encryption, username and password match the Connect an app page. If it connects but cannot send, confirm the domain is verified and the From address belongs to it.
Replies
Sending from an address does not automatically create a mailbox at that address. Configure a reply address in your software if replies should go to an existing mailbox, or set up receiving addresses.
